Bireswar Chakraborty, Ph.D.

Vice President, Product & Business Development

Dr. Chakraborty has more than nineteen years of experience in providing leadership and management of strategic product development in the areas of pre-formulation, formulation, CMC and manufacturing, technical operations, new product ideas, life cycle management (molecules to market), drug delivery, issue resolution and implementation.

Recently, as Director of Research and Development at Transport Pharmaceutical Inc., Dr. Chakraborty headed development of formulations, early phase analytical tests, process development, clinical supplies, and product design for drug /device combination products. (Transport was a leader in Iontophoretic Drug Delivery Technology for Trans-dermal products and winner of Frost and Sullivan North American Electrokinesis-enabled Drug Delivery Technology Innovation Award, 2007).

Prior to that, as Director of Product Development at Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Dr. Chakraborty was a project leader for setting up a nasal spray product development department and submitted several ANDAs, and managed 505B2 programs for nasal spray and oral liquid products (for allergic rhinitis, diabetes, allergy, migraine pain).

At Muro-ASTA Medica (A Degussa Company), Dr. Chakraborty was charged with the responsibilities of building a highly visible product development R & D for multiple dosage forms ( Nasal Spray, Pulmonary MDPI, oral liquids and solids, inhalation solutions, injectables) for respiratory diseases ( Allergic Rhinitis, COPD, Asthma, Cold, Allergy).

Dr. Chakraborty started his career as Research Scientist at Copley Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (Later Rhone Poulenc) where he developed formulations, manufacturing process, clinical supplies of solutions, gels, emulsions (for topical, ophthalmic drug delivery for dry eye syndrome), bio-adhesive tablets and patches for oral drug delivery for antibiotics and local anaesthetics, and immediate release tablets.

Dr. Chakraborty contributed to several patents, poster presentations, publications, book proposal reviews in the areas of product development and drug delivery. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in pharmaceutical sciences from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He received his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and A.H.S., Boston. He was an Exchange Visitor Scientist at Dartmouth Medical School, NH and conducted research in the areas of biochemistry and immunology.
